As with any garden, Scawby Gardens is a continuous work in progress. The photograph on the far left shows the gardens in the 1890s — at a time when the gardens were just becoming established. The original central greenhouse is clearly visible in the background.
In 2004, we replaced a rose garden which had been planted over 120 years ago with a lavender maze which has matured nicely. The layout is based upon a design created for the Gonzaga family. Three years later, we converted one of the quadrants of the gardens into a gigantic checkerboard featuring grasses and low growing shrubs. This massive planting is now reaching maturity.
These photographs give some flavour of the gardens and an inkling of what to expect!
